Signal Generation
Sierra Chart
Description
A modular signal building block for Sierra Chart. The 2-Reference Lookback takes two inputs — any subgraph from any study, or manual values — processes each through a configurable lookback window, then compares or combines them to produce a signal.
Input Processing
Each input independently supports five pre-calculation modes over a 2–20 bar window:
- Direct value — current bar, no lookback
- Sum — cumulative total over the window
- Average — mean over the window
- Max range — maximum minus minimum (range expansion)
- Average per-bar change — consecutive bar change (trend/momentum)
After pre-calculation, each input can be further adjusted with an additive shift and a multiplicative factor.
Signal Modes
| Mode | Operators | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Relational | < > <= >= = != |
Boolean (1 or 0) |
| Arithmetic | + - * / pow |
Continuous value |
Activation Gating
Optionally restrict evaluation to specific conditions — activate only while another study output is 1, 0, non-zero, positive, or negative. Prevents signal generation outside the intended market context.
Common Setups
- Volume threshold: 5-bar volume sum versus a fixed level
- Momentum divergence: 10-bar price range versus indicator average
- Ratio output: bid volume sum divided by ask volume sum
- Conditional trend: 15-bar price change gated by wave direction
